About Rabbit Farming
Rabbits breed fast: pregnancy is only about 31 days, and a doe can raise 5–6 litters a year. Ten does, two bucks and their young fit in a small shed, and they eat forages, vegetable leaves and some pellets.
Rabbits give several products: meat rabbits at 2–2.5 kg live weight (10–14 weeks), breeding stock, urine (a biopesticide and foliar feed), manure and skins. They are quiet and clean, which suits peri-urban farms.

Feeding Rabbits
- Fibre every day: forage or hay
- Pellets: 100–130 g for bucks and dry does
- Pregnant does 150–180 g; nursing does free choice
- Clean water at all times (nursing does 1.5–3 litres)
- Wilt fresh forage in the shade before feeding
- Change feeds slowly: sudden changes cause bloat
Housing
Keep hutches raised, shaded and airy, away from rats, dogs and damp. Collect urine and droppings on a sloping sheet or tray leading to a container, so they can be used or sold.
